Dr. Weaver began helping others as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic. He worked as a paramedic in the field and in emergency room settings for 17 years. His experiences with patients in emergent situations nurtured a desire to help others during and after crisis, prompting him to learn more about mental health. During graduate school, Dr. Weaver obtained training in psychiatric disability and presurgical psychological evaluations, as well as individual and group counseling. His internship experience also included evaluations of children in foster care and patients seeking bariatric surgery. Dr. Weaver’s fellowship in 2013, provided further experience in these areas, as well as assessment of patients with chronic pain. He currently conducts over 400 presurgical psychological evaluations per year for several pain management physicians, neurosurgeons, and bariatric surgeons in Louisiana, the Golden Triangle, and the greater Houston area. In addition, Dr. Weaver is also a contract provider for Matrix, Inc. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and assists in the pre-employment liability screenings of law enforcement officers, including patrol, corrections, probation and parole, and harbor police.
